what i'm looking forward to: No progress at my 37 week appt, but he is head down so that's great news.  The doctor told me early on that he might not be head down due to the shape of my uterus, so I am glad he is.  No c-section for me! (unless something changes, of course)

I can't believe I only have three weeks or less!! The days are really dragging now, and I am getting anxious for him to be here.  I know once he is here, the days will fly by, so I am trying to soak up the last few days with my husband as just us two.

20 July 2013

The past 9 months...

With less than 3 weeks until we meet our son (hopefully!), I wanted to make sure I documented the major milestones that occured during this pregnancy.  One day, I will share with Winslow what it was like when I was carrying him these past 9 months and want to make sure I don't miss out on any details!

So let me start from the first day I found out.  We were so blessed by getting pregnant right away and I honestly was prepared to go several months with no positive test.  But after the first month, when I read that positive pregnancy test, I was in complete joy and awe!  I remember waking up about three days before my missed period and taking a test.  It said negative, so I waited another day, took another one, and it was also negative.  Then one day before my missed period, I took one and a TINY faint line showed up.  I was thinking it was a mistake because it was so faint, but I called my OBGYN and she told me to wait another 2-3 days and it that one said positive, then I was probably really pregnant.

Those next two days drug by, let me tell you.  I didn't start my period, but I didn't want to waste another test so I waited three more days.  That weekend, we traveled to Boone, where we went to college, to meet up with our mentors during our time there and that morning in the hotel room, I took another test.

Sure enough, it was positive.  I took one more and it was also positive.  So I knew that this meant good news and I woke hubby up and said "I took two tests and they were both positive!"   Before we started trying, I had always planned to share with  hubby that I was pregnant in a really cool way.  But I was so excited I just couldn't wait, so that's how it happened. haha!

We then went about our weekend, met up with our dear friends and they asked us when we thought we might have children.  Since I had JUST found out that morning, I wasn't ready to share the news yet, we just told them probably in the next 6 months we would start trying. Sorry for that little fib, Mason! ;)

This was the first weekend in December, and my mom actually came to visit a couple weeks later.  Can you believe I didn't tell her I was pregnnat when she was here?!?!  I was about 5-6 weeks pregnant and I wanted to make SURE I was before I shared the news.  I went to the doctor when I was around 7 weeks pregnant and so we decided to tell our families on Christmas Day.

That day will go down as one of the most joyful days of my life (Besides my wedding day, and my son's soon-to-be birthday.) I remember the tears of joy from my in-laws and the screaming and crying from my mom! haha.. I videoed my mom finding out and I am so glad I did.  She was sooooo funny and sweet!

Around 7 weeks was when I started getting REAL sick.  Not just once or twice here and there.  I'm talking about EVERY single day ALL day long.  Throwing up, feeling horrible, not eating..it was NOT fun.  I would have to pull over on my way to work in the morning to get sick, and in between my customers at the bank, I would run to the bathroom.  I told my co-workers I was pregnant before I told my parents because I was so miserable!

The sickness went away around 16 weeks (those were the LONGEST 9 weeks of my life)  and since then, I haven't gotten sick one time.

Around fourteen weeks, I was in the shower and passed flat out on the floor!  It was awful and I was home by myself. Thankfully I was alright, but I contribute me being so dehydrated and sick as the reason I passed out.

At 18 weeks, we found out we were having a boy! I could have sworn it was a girl...all those wives tales are not true about pregnancy! Everyone said since I was so sick, it was a girl.  And if I craved sweets it was a girl...well the only thing that wouldn't make me sick during my first trimesters was taco bell! haha.  So I would eat a taco about three times a week and I also craved sour straws like crazy.

Hubby actually ordered a 20 pack of them from Amazon for me! (And that's why I have so many cavities now, UGH!)

At 21 weeks, we went on a babymoon to Miami.  We attended the Sony Open tennis tournament which was so much fun.

Other random things about pregnancy:

-I have been so lucky with having an easy pregnancy.  No swollen ankles or hands, no food aversions anymore (since about week 16), and I've gained around 19 pounds.
-Little Winslow has ALWAYS loved to stay on my right side.  When I lay down at night, his little booty sticks straight up and it looks so funny.
- I have craved milk the WHOLE pregnancy.  Before I got pregnant, I used to drink it quite often, but now I HAVE to have at least one glass when I get up, or I cannot function.
-No heartburn whatsoever.  (I wonder if that means Winslow will have no hair!?)
-I love being pregnant. It makes me tear up when I think about the awesome responsibility God has given me as a mom.  I am so excited to have him here, and I know that he is going to be one loved little fella.
-Darla, our golden retriever, has gotten really protective of me.  I swear she can sense I am about to have a baby because she barks when people come to the door now, and she never did that before.  She also follows me around EVERYWHERE.
-I went to the dentist because part of my tooth chipped off last month, and let's just say the report was not good.  Apparantly, pregnnat ladies' teeth get more soft and also all the hormones make your teeth more prone to cavities.  I've only had ONE cavity in my life, and now I have..I'm embarrassed to even say.  I have to go back twice once I deliever to get all my cavities filled, I'll say that.  Ha!  That's awful.
-My gums have also been bleeding a lot more, I flosss every night, but they still bleed.  A lot. Way more than the normal amount.  One day we were driving to Raleigh, and my whole mouth just filled up with blood! I had just been talking to hubby and I tasted blood, I opened my mouth and thought I had lost all my teeth at once or something! We had to pull over and spend like 20 minutes getting the bleeding under control.  It was CRAZY.
-I can feel his hands scratching me now.  It's such a weird feeling, and to be honest, makes me cringe.  At night, especially, his hands go crazy poking, punching, and scratching me..it sometimes hurts!
-My favorite thing about being pregnant so far would have to be when we play Winslow music.  He immediately starts "dancing" in my belly.  I love it.
-The first toy Winslow got was a Willie Nelson doll from hubby.  Doesn't that make you proud? haha
-I get up in the middle of the night 2-3 times to pee. This is the ONE thing I will be so glad to get rid of.  I hate waking up.
-I also make frequent trips during the day..like 16 times a day.  no joke.
- I cannot wait to hear his first little cry.  I think about it all day long.

Come on baby boy, Mommy wants to meet you!!

Light fixture update

Over the past few months, I've done a lot of small projects around the house, but not really blogged about them!  I am hoping to catch up a little on updating you on my DIY adventures.

One thing I did do (well my friend Brian did for me) was install a new light fixture in the dining area.  I had been wanting a farmhouse style light for a while, and I had a friend go to IKEA for me and pick one up.

This one was only $29.99 BUT i thought it was going to be a LOT smaller than it is.  However, once it was installed, I liked it.  Not exactly "true" farmhouse style, but I like the change.  (And plus IKEA is over 3 hours from here, so I couldn't return it that easily)

AFTER:

A small update, but I am happy with the result! For $29.99, you can't really beat it!

11 July 2013

Just a pile of thoughts.

I am in full nesting mode, y'all.  I have four weeks until my due date, and every single day when I get home from work, I've been cleaning out the house.  It's so rejuvinating!

In the meantime, I've been eating hummus off of my baby bump. ;)

I also made my own hospital gown to wear when I deliver...I looked online at prices and didn't want to pay like 85 dollars for one on Etsy so I made my own! The total cost was around $25.

When my brothers, dad, and stepmom were here, they all helped build us a new fence in the backyard, and we also spent a day at the beach.  It was wonderful.

And lastly, I made some little goodie bags for the labor and delivery nurses when I am in the hospital.  They are tucked away in my go bag and we are OFFICIALLY ready for a baby!

Got everything packed and we are just waiting on his arrival! 4 weeks or less!

(told you this was extremely random!)

35 Weeks!

how far along? 35 Weeks 4 Days
how are you measuring?
Right on schedule

size of baby? A coconut
heartbeat? 141 BPM

total weight gain/loss? Around 18 pounds
maternity clothes? Oh yes!
stretch marks? I might have a tiny one on the underside of my belly. :(  I can't see good enough to tell though...I don't know if it's a stretch mark or just a mark. haha.

sleep? I think because I'm so tired at night, I've been sleeping better.  This week was the first week where I've been dead tired by the end of the day.  I can really feel my belly putting so much pressure on my back and it feels great to lay down at the end of the day.
best moment this week? Having my family in to visit!

movement? Oh yes!  Sometimes he kicks me so hard it startles me!
food cravings? Milk
gender predictions? A boy!
what i miss: Sleeping on my stomach, turkey sandwiches, sushi, a good nights sleep

what i'm looking forward to: We have reach weekly appointments now- that's exciting because now I can hopefully progress towards having a baby each week! I think he's going to be here a little early..but then again, I also thought I was having a girl, and was way wrong...I can cross my fingers though, right?! I'm trying to not get my hopes up though, so I just hope I won't see the 41 week mark!

09 July 2013

Dear Winslow

Dear baby boy,

Exactly ONE month from today is your due date! Will you arrive early?  Will you arrive late?  I wonder that a lot these days.  I am almost 36 weeks pregnant and with every day, I'm getting more and more excited to meet you.  I can't believe in less than a month (hopefully) you'll be in my arms!

My brothers, dad, and stepmom came from Texas this past weekend to visit.  They have not seen me since you've been growing in my belly.  The last time they saw me, I was only 8 weeks pregnant with you and you were the size of a pea!  Now you're almost a small watermelon!  Can you believe it?
We had a great time visitng and they all helped build us a nice fence in our backyard.  It's almost twice as big as it used to be and so when you start growing up into a big boy, you'll have lots of fun throwing the ball and playing with Darla.

We had a doctors appointment this morning and you are measuring right on schedule! I know you're cozy in there, but if you want to come and meet us in a couple weeks, that would be awesome!  You had a GREAT heartbeat and next week we'll go back to check on you.

This week we've been cleaning the house in preparation for your arrival.  We want to make sure everything is perfect for our little angel.  I've washed all your clothes and boy are you going to be adorable in them! I might just change your clothes every hour because you'll be so cute.  ;)

You're getting so big in my belly that I can feel your little feet when you kick and sometimes I  think I feel an elbow!  I cannot wait to meet you, sweet boy.  Will you have blue eyes like momma and daddy?  Will you have curly hair?  Are you going to be as tall as dad when you get big?  I dream about you all the time. One day you'll read these letters and laugh at me, I hope.

Since you've been growing in my belly, you always loved to sit on my right side.  All the doctors who look at my belly when I lay down always comment on how "crooked" you like to be.  You'll be on the far right side all day sometimes!  It's so cute because it's been that way since around 20 weeks.  I want to make sure I remember these things for when you can read these letters.

Dear baby boy,  momma and daddy love you so much.  We pray for you every night, dad is still playing songs to you at night too.  He loves to play Willie Nelson and Jack Johnson.

See you soon, Winslow!

Xoxo,

Mommy

Winslow's Nursery!

Y'all! I am ready to have a baby! His nursery is FINISHED! I can't wait to share photos, and I will do my best to make a source list as well in case you are interested in where I got something.  If you have any questions, just leave a comment and I'll do my best to reply soon!

I love the way his nursery turned out.  If you want to go back and look at my inspiration gallery, go here.  I'd say it stayed on target pretty close!  I am loving that most of the things in the nursery we did ourselves too. I love a good DIY project!

Introducing...

Our Little Boy's Nursery

I bought the changing table/dresser from a thrift store in Raleigh for $20 y'all.  TWENTY dollars!  It was pretty beat up so I did a good sanding, primed, and painted it red.  Then I distressed it and added burlap knobs from Hobby Lobby.  I love the end result and it was the perfect antique piece that I was looking for.

This might be my favorite part of this room: the reading nook.  Hubby built the window seat, my mom and I made the cushion with leftover quilt pieces from his bedding and canvas drop cloth, and I painted the window seat white. It also opens up for a toy box too!
The little fox is from my stepsister and stepmom and it came with a cute little book.

My mom made the curtain and I painted brown stripes on the bottom.
Chevron rug from World Market for $60!

The book ledges are just 1X2's that I nailed together with finishing nails.  Super super easy.  Then I stained it and hung it on the wall with little L brackets from Lowe's.
His crib is from Craigslist (originally from a really nice furniture store for over $900!) We bought it on Craigslist for $150.   His bedding I made from an old quilt I purchased on eBay. I bought the bumper pads for 50% off at Hobby Lobby, and then once I made the bumpers, they just fit in like a sleeve.  The chevron crib sheet is from Target. The little sock monkey blanket is from my mom but she got it at TJ Maxx.
It was hard to get a photo of his mobile, but I made it from felt and stuffed the inside with pillow stuffing.  This is the first project I made for his nursery. :)  I love it.

This piece of furniture, my husband made and I stained it a dark walnut.  The baskets are from Target and the vintage egg basket is from an antique store in Raleigh.  The lamp is a thrift store find that I spray painted orange.  My mother-in-law made the diaper cake for my baby shower.

There was a fan in here, but it was really rickety and only would work on high so we took it down and made our own light fixture- a chicken wire basket from HomeGoods that I removed the canvas inside and we bought a pendant kit from Lowe's for $20 and installed it.  I love the vintage look it gives the room.

 Sunshine canvas- HomeGoods
Wooden frame with Deer Art- Michaels
W letter-I  painted it red but it's from Michaels
All of the animal art is made by my friend, Nick.
Barn canvas- made by my best friend, Molly
Texas blue plate- antique store
Orange metal frame- Goodwill
Canvas of hubby and I- made by me
Bible verse crochet art- made by me
North Carolina State with heart over our hometown- made by me

Vintage Willie Nelson doll- from ebay.  Hubby insisted we get this. haha, he loves Willie Nelson

Chicken wire frame- frame is from thrift store, and I just stapled chicken wire to the back.

 Lantern- HomeGoods
 Knobs- Hobby Lobby

Antlers- my brother killed this deer and made a mount for it when he was visiting. It was the first deer he ever killed!
Barnwood knob peice- made by my stepsister
Fox in glider is from IKEA
Glider is from amazon.
Blanket is from my sister-in-law

Orange shelf was white and its from Goodwill.  I spraypainted it orange.  Those little shoes are from a friend back in Texas. How adorable, right!?  His name is on the front!

Crib bedskirt is from amazon.  I added the yellow poms to the bottom.
 Growth chart made by me.

Changing pad cover and changing pad from amazon.

Wall color is Cafe Latte from Valpsar.

Any other questions?  Just leave a comment.

We are so ready to meet you, sweet Winslow!!!

Xoxo,

Kait
