My $1.50 Goodwill Find!

If someone were to ask you what your favorite store is, what would you say?

Me?  Well, I have a lot of answers for that question:

1. TJ Maxx
2. Target
3. HomeGoods
4. JCrew (Even though I can't afford it half the time)
5. Michaels
6. Hobby Lobby
I could go on and on...but I got to thinking and I have decided my all-time favorite store is:

GOODWILL.

I go about once a week (sometimes more if I'm lucky) and almost always find something wonderful that I can either fix up, or use as it is! Well I went yesterday and look what I found:

For ONE DOLLAR AND FIFTY CENTS.  People, you can walk down the street and find that many cents on the sidewalk.  Or in the bottom of your dryer..or between your couch cushions..and I got a lamp for that much!  I am a happy camper.

As you can see, this poor lamp has had its share of paint jobs..First it was white and then blue..and now that I got my hands on it..what color do you think I painted it? 

Let me share a short story with you...

It's my favorite color and you better believe it was my color of choice for decorating when I was in middle and high school.  AND college, too!  But now that I'm an ol' married woman, my decorating style has matured (which is a good thing) and I no longer have that "cheerleader spazzy hot pink decorating" style.  I can call it that because I was a spazzy cheerleader in my younger years. ha!

So..when I found this lamp I thought to myself "I'm gonna paint it HOT PINK" and put it downstairs in the office.  It's the area that I can make as girlie as I want because not that many people go downstairs and I use that area to manage our finances, pay bills, make phone calls for work..etc.  In other words: It's MY area and Mr. husband doesn't bother going down there.

After I painted it, I felt like such a girl.  and that's a good thing.  I am so excited to have a piece of college back with me and I know it's going to make me real happy each time I see it.

Alright, enough of me rambling..wanna see?

Yes, I told you it was HOT PINK!

I think this would be the perfect lamp for a little girl or a teenager..and even though I am not either of those, I love it.  

The lamp is made of wood and I just used a spray paint in a gloss finish and sprayed that sucker like a billion times.   As for the lamp shade, I just used acrylic paint for the stripes (and used a regular paintbrush to paint them) and made the rosettes out of an old t shirt I bought from Goodwill. I got out my handy dandy CORDLESS glue gun to glue the rosettes on and there you have it!

I also had two old frames laying around from Goodwill that I paid pennies for.  Well maybe they were 50 cents each.  I painted those honeysuckle (the Pantone color of the year) as well and made one into a business card holder and the other framed a cross I had.

 *You see that caricature of my and hubby?  Those were our wedding favors at our wedding!*

When I make phone calls for work, I never can seem to find the *most* important  ones so I decided I needed this to keep them readily accessible. 


Pretty snazzy. and bright.  and it sometimes hurts my eyes when I look at it for a long time.  not really though.

I asked my husband if I could put it in our room.  I think it would look great on my bedside table..dontcha think?

Just kidding.  It didn't go over well with him. 

I think I'll stick to my beautiful black lamps that make me look grown-up.
